California State Long Beach Aging Topics Perspectives on Gerontology Discussion

I’m working on a global studies writing question and need a sample draft to help me study. After you read & watch everything posted, I want you to tell me: 1. What are your thoughts (fear, anticipation, haven’t thought about it yet) about growing older (be honest… your thoughts are safe in this class!). 2. What experiences have you had (or are having) with older people (65 years old and older will be the measure for this class) 3. What do you already know about aging (have taken another class, its part of your major, you ARE older…. tell me!) 4. Why you are taking this class (I know, it fit into your schedule… or you heard it was amazing…. or you think (or heard) it will be an easy A… or you’re interested in the topic…)… all of these are acceptable answers, I want to know WHY? and what do you expect to get out of this course… (Be HONEST!! I don’t grade on whether or not I like or agree with your answer..they are YOUR thoughts! I really want to know!!) 5. And finally, what did you think about the videos? THE CONTENT (NOTE: not the music, not the moderator, not the artistic viewpoint… CONCENTRATE on the material that was presented) … Pick out some interesting facts that caught your attention…. Tell me WHAT the fact (or issue) was and WHY you found it interesting for MINIMUM 3 of the videos (yes, you can mention all of them too!) # Writing FORMAT: Number the questions for your answers (just like the question format above!!)… you should have 5 paragraphs: #1: blah, blah; #2: blah, blah, and so on #5: Video #1… (you MUST identify the video…. you can give a partial title.. or a description (hans video) … bottom line is that if I have no idea which video you are talking about, then you won’t get credit. Video #2 Video #3 Be specific… for full points: complete sentences, thorough, (short ‘vague’ answers are going to reduce your grade.. nor are 1 sentence answers), I want you to provide some substance to your answer, however, I don’t want you to rewrite ‘A Tale of Two Cities’ either! This is a writing intensive course and if you don’t write something substantial (meaning one sentence answers are not enough), you will lose points!! Make sure to write in a 1st person…. I think, I feel, I like, I worry, I, I, I…. I think you get it!! NO APA!! ## Discussion 2- Global Aging & Older Immigrants to the US ## READ –> Imagine having to pack up and move to a new country in your sixties or seventies where you are unfamiliar with the customs, values, and often the language of the host culture. This move means that you must also leave behind your social relationships and all the places you have come to know like your local market or family doctor. THREE (3) QUESTIONS to ANSWER: What might you find to be the hardest most difficult changes you would need to make? What and who would you miss from your home country? How would you cope and what would you do to cope in your new country? 1. Read Chapters 1 & 2 and read the Questions in the Forum that I posed for this discussion (reading the chapters will help formulate your thoughts)…. NOTE: The questions are in the forum you just viewed before you clicked on the link for this Topic 2. Post your answer to the THREE (3) questions above.. NOTE: be sure to REFERENCE something from the textbook chapter (No APA… but you can use a section … example: 2.1 where it stated, blah, blah, blah). If I don’t see any reference to the textbook, you’ll lose a point for each question… and if you are worried, reference more than one! AND yes, you can reference the Videos too! Be sure to BULLET each response. Here is the link to a FREE version (PDF) of the textbook https://www.pdfdrive.com/aging-matters-an-introduction-to-social- gerontology-e179630620.html This is written in FIRST PERSON… remember: I think, I feel, I was shocked, I hated ..(no right or wrong for your thoughts)…
